We’re moving permanently to our vacation home in Cocoa, FL to escape the winter freeze

At least there isn’t a foot of snow to shovel every morning just to get out the front door and into the car

My wife and I had the money to buy a second home in Cocoa, Florida a few years ago, but until recently we could only use it for vacations. I was running a business in Michigan and couldn’t move states until I sold it. My wife was working in an orchestra in Ann Arbor, but recently retired. With nothing holding us back, we started to consider moving to our vacation home in Cocoa, Florida. It’s so close to Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach, two places that enthrall us both. My wife likes to catch rays of sun on Cocoa Beach in the summer, whereas I like to go kayaking in the Ulumay Wildlife Sanctuary on Merritt Island. There is no shortage of beautiful sights to see while living in Cocoa, Florida. We’re sick of freezing temperatures and paying exorbitant amounts of money to heat our house to stay warm in the cold winter weather. And as we get older, it becomes increasingly harder to tolerate the cold temperatures as it drops below zero degrees in January and February every year. Cocoa is usually a lot warmer than this, although this year has been particularly cold for the entirety of Florida. I have family in Venice and friends in Miami—all of them reported abnormally cold temperatures thus far this spring. I used to go fishing on the St. Johns River in March every year but I think it’s going to be too cold for my sensitive skin. At least there isn’t a foot of snow to shovel every morning just to get out the front door and into the car. Living in Cocoa sure beats freezing up north in the cold winter weather.

I like the climate in Tampa because it's nice and warm

If for some reason the power went out for 24 hours or longer, this could pose serious issues with the plumbing

Both of my parents were born and raised in central Michigan. It was my mom who had family living in Florida, whereas all of my father’s extended family is in Michigan and British Columbia. When I first visited Florida, it was during a short plane trip to visit my grandmother and my great grandfather. I’ll never forget feeling the heat and humidity the second I got off the plane. We flew into the Fort Myers airport because my grandmother and great grandfather were living in Naples at the time. When my whole family finally moved to Florida, we settled into Tampa because my dad got a job at his company’s office in Tarpon Springs. I have grown accustomed to the heat and humidity that comes with living in the Tampa Bay area. I don’t miss the subzero temperatures throughout the winter where you’ll freeze to death in your sleep if you lose your power and don’t have supplemental heat sources like a storm generator or a wood stove. Since I live in a place that rarely sees freezing temperatures, I don’t have a second heat source in my Tampa home. This has worried me on nights when it actually gets down to the low 30s, because I don’t want a pipe to freeze inside my house. If for some reason the power went out for 24 hours or longer, this could pose serious issues with the plumbing. The last time it got down to 30 degrees I didn’t even run the heat in the house because it stayed in the mid 60s here. Once heat gets inside during the day, it doesn’t escape as quickly as you might think, even if the temperatures get down to 30 degrees fahrenheit at night.

This was a friendly conversation between family

Before moving to Toronto, I had been on a handful of “haunted” tours in varying places in which I have lived.

St, and septemberine in Florida has a number of aged buildings from the civil war era that are purported to be haunted, even though I experienced an interesting historical tour instead.

You don’t have to be interested in the “haunted” part to go on a haunted tour in a historical district of an aged city, especially if there is a lot to learn along the way. That’s how I l received about St. Septemberine plus its history as a settlement in the state. When I moved to Toronto, I shouldn’t have been surprised to learn that they have their own version of the haunted tour. Toronto’s Haunted Walk, or the Toronto Ghost Tours, starts at the courtyard in front of the Hockey Hall of Fame plus explores some of the allegedly haunted buildings in Toronto’s core. I decided to smoke a blunt with my friends before the two of us departed my current home for the Haunted Walk at the Hockey Hall of Fame on Yonge Street. For $25 I was expecting more, however it wasn’t the worst evening either. Having the blunt beforehand certainly helped create some sense of excitement in our group, however most of us stayed for the history lesson more than anything else. Once the two of us got back to my current home the two of us smoked another blunt before the two of us all passed out on my residing room couch. Even if you’re not a fan of the paranormal, there is still fun to have on a ghost tour if you’re going to see Toronto for any extended period of time.

I would have settled for anything that was a hybrid

She crawled into bed next to me and didn’t say a word.

I was really frustrated on Friday night, when I ordered marijuana from a dispensary in San Francisco. I specifically chose the San Francisco dispensary because they offer late at night delivery services. My girlfriend and I had gotten into an argument and she left my house in the middle of the night. I didn’t have any marijuana and the first thing I wanted to do was smoke a bowl. I placed an online order from the dispensary. I picked a couple of hybrid pre rolls. I also got a g of concentrate and a bag of edibles. A budtender from the cannabis shop called to confirm all of the items in my order and I found out that they did not have any hybrid pre-rolls in stock. I would have settled for any hybrid, but they didn’t have anything at all. I ended up with a cart full of indicas. The delivery driver arrived about 30 minutes later and I started smoking a bowl. The heavy Indica made me feel very relaxed and tired. I was angry and frustrated before I started smoking, but I honestly felt much better after getting high. I was sleeping soundly when my girlfriend finally came back to the apartment. She crawled into bed next to me and didn’t say a word. In the morning, she saw the bag from the San Francisco cannabis dispensary. She didn’t say anything at all. We never discussed the argument and both of us woke up in a good mood the next day. Things worked out well considering we had a huge fight that night.

I maintain a medical marijuana card in Colorado to avoid the higher price of recreational

Cannabis users have never had better access to marijuana products of every kind. There are quality cannabis flower products and edibles in more states than not, although it has been a hard road getting this far. As much as I love having legal weed, I don’t like the egregious prices I pay in nearly any state I visit that has legal recreational cannabis in addition to legal medical cannabis. Before moving to Colorado, I was a long time resident of Michigan. Until recreational cannabis was legalized in Michigan in 2018, I had a medical marijuana card in the state. I held onto that medical marijuana card because the tax on all recreational cannabis sales in Michigan is 10%. This starts to add up quickly if you’re at the dispensary at least once a week. But Colorado is even worse—the state government collects a 15% tax on recreational cannabis sales. It’s expensive enough to live here, but I guess they want to tax the hell out of cannabis tourists from out east. I have a medical marijuana card in Colorado so I am not subject to the 15% tax on recreational cannabis sales when I shop at weed stores in Denver. There’s a place in Washington Park just north of the University of Denver that I like to frequent the most. They have some of the best cannabis concentrates that I’ve tried in all of Colorado, particularly their live rosin and live resin products. Getting them at an affordable price with my medical card minus the 15% recreational tax makes it all worthwhile.
