We missed a few of the games, because the weather was simply too dangerous
My husband and I are huge hockey fans. I used to attend games with my father when I was a little girl. My husband played hockey at the high school and college level. Living in Libertyville, Illinois, we follow the Chicago Blackhawks. We both have Blackhawks jerseys and we never miss a game. One year, we decided to splurge on season tickets so that we could see the home games in-person. The season starts up in the mid-fall and the local weather is really beautiful. Although we tend to get a lot of rain, the nights are crisp and cool. The hour-drive to the hockey rink wasn’t a problem. We simply needed to pack some warmer clothes to wear inside the arena. For the sake of keeping the ice hard and cold, the atmosphere is on the chilly side. Hockey season is long, with the Stanley Cup Playoffs not happening until the spring. The winter weather in Libertyville is always a challenge. We expect temperatures below freezing and quite a bit of snow. The year we invested into season tickets for the Blackhawks, we experienced the worst winter on record. The temperature dropped down to twenty-five below zero and stayed there for several weeks. It was constantly snowing and blowing, turning the roads icy and causing limited visibility. There were blizzard conditions on game nights. Several times, it was downright scary making the commute from Libertyville to Chicago. We missed a few of the games, because the weather was simply too dangerous. We now buy tickets to specific games and only in the early fall. Other than that, we stay home and watch hockey on television.
