One of my favorite things to do during winter is take a walk through Kane County Forest Preserve.

Nature abounds since Kane County Forest Preserve District sought to safeguard and restore natural areas in the Elgin, IL area. You can find prairie, forest, and wetlands throughout this special area. Hiking, biking, horseback riding, camping, fishing, a family picnic, or a place to unleash the dog and let him run is all available to anyone to visit. When it is cold outside, and there is snow on the ground, I don my walking boots, a hat, scarf, and gloves, and head to the Kane County Forest Preserve. The wonders of nature still roam free, and if you’re especially quiet, you can hear the snow hitting the forest floor. I imagine I am all alone in the world, and there is no one to tarnish this amazing 20,000 acres of beauty. Few people venture out when it is only 30 degrees out, and you can see your breath as you walk, but I’m not one of those few. One reason I moved to Elgin, IL, was for the beauty I seek at Kane County Forest Preserve. Now my children are older and can appreciate the beauty I see. They don their winter garb and go for a hike with me. There is nothing like enjoying nature with your family, and letting them see the untouched Kane County Forest Preserve of Elgin, IL. Cold winter weather never bothers us when we’re hiking.
