When work moved me to Illinois at first I was excited.
I was hopeful to get a city placement and enjoy all the benefits of Chicago. When I heard I was going to Lansing, I was pretty bummed. Lansing is about an hour away from the city. Now an hour doesn’t sound that far, but who really wants to do city driving? I kind of figured I would end up hating my area. Turns out there is plenty to do in Lansing. It is not a bustling city but there are fun things like Centennial Park, Lan Oak Lakes and Brownell Woods. There seems to be plenty of things to do with children here and a lot of nature oriented things. Illinois is a beautiful state that has a lot of beautiful sights. I am glad I am in a location where I can take advantage of that. The weather here isn’t even that bad. With Illinois you are going to get some cold. I make sure to have a properly working heater in my home. I sprung to have hydronic heating since there was already a boiler in my basement. Now I have toasty heated flooring and a snowmelt system in the driveway. I always can pop into a heated car and go about my day. The snow doesn’t slow this little city down though. You can still enjoy the nature trails or see the tourist-like sites no matter the time of year. I am kind of glad that I still get to experience the cold and snow.
