For years I dreamed about moving to Glenview, Illinois.
- Now, I know that to anyone who lives there, or has even visited Glenview, that statement is probably hilarious.
It’s the truth, though! I was an only child raised by a single mother in a part of Illinois so remote that I never saw any children outside the confines of school. I had to take a bus ride for 45 minutes just to get to the school! My mom lived on the family lands, which had stopped being farmed many years ago. Our house was old, frail, and lacked cable tv or proper air conditioning. During the hottest days of the summer my mom would take me to Glenview to stay with her sister. In Glenview there was ample air conditioning, plus I could watch whatever I wanted on TV. This is how the cozy town of Glenview became idolized and glorified in my mind, and why I spent years wanting to live there. This also explains why I was so interested in learning HVAC repair for a job. Air conditioners seem so complicated I couldn’t figure them out, so if the classes at the Glenview community college could educate me, I could have a career on my hands! My Aunt Ginny was very kind, and let me stay in her house near Glenview as I took my classes. In return I promised to give her free HVAC service for the rest of her life. Once I moved here to Glenview, I never moved anywhere else. I simply love it here.
