I assumed mom read only the headlines, because that wasn’t why she was arrested
My mother told me she had read the laws for legal, medical marijuana and, according to her, I could not transport it in my car. This sounded odd to me. I was twenty-one and legally allowed to use marijuana in Albuquerque, NM, whether it was medical or recreational. I had to get it home somehow, so why couldn’t I put it in my car? I looked up the laws pertaining to transportation of marijuana in a personal car. The only thing it says is that medical or recreational marijuana could not be consumed in public. Consumption was allowed in your home, or in public places where it is allowed. I could carry marijuana in my car, but it had be in a closed container, and out of the reach of the driver. If it was unopened marijuana the marijuana had to be in its original packaging. I couldn’t figure out what mom was talking about, or why she brought it up to me. I called mom and asked why she was talking about transporting marijuana. She said she had read that a young lady was arrested for having marijuana in her car. I had read the same article in the Albuquerque, NM, newspaper. I assumed mom read only the headlines, because that wasn’t why she was arrested. She had packages of marijuana that exceeded the amount she was allowed to have; it was in opened packages, and when she saw the cop, she threw a joint out the window. The cop said he could smell the marijuana as soon as he got out of his car.
