I remember playing baseball in the backyard of my parents’ farmhouse.
- Our yard was enormous, and surrounded on all sides by endless acres of corn crops.
Every morning I took a bus to the nearest town for school, but night and weekends were all about doing chores. Once every couple of weeks my mother would pack us all in the station wagon and drive to Orland Park, which was a good 2 hours away from us. There we would shop for clothes, have a bite to eat, and sometimes even see a movie! For a kid who was so isolated, the town of Orland Park seemed enormous, and full of magic. That was a long time ago, and it seems that Orland Park has grown even more than I have. When I was trying to figure out what to do with my life, I was considering getting into HVAC work. I did a little research on Orland Park, and the number were kind of astounding. I found out that for the first 80 years or so, the village of Orland Park was only home to few hundred people. Since the 70s and 80s, the population here has begun to grow rapidly, to the point that Orland Park now claims over 60,000 residents! For an aspiring HVAC tech, that sort of community growth was important, because it told me that Orland Park needed qualified HVAC and construction workers. That spurred me to make the move, and settle down in Orland Park to kick off my career as an certified HVAC tech.
